The Modern Eater Show 11/12/16

The Modern Eater welcomes chef Keegan Gerhard from D Bar Denver and the Food Network to the show. Find out how Keegan got his start in the culinary world, and believe me it’s not how you would think! Also chef Keegan and chef Alex Seidel are in business together doing something really unique, tune in to find out what!

More with chef Keegan Gerhard and how he stays on top of the food world. We were surprised to hear that D Bar San Diego closed down, tune in to hear chef Keegan explain why he decided to call it quits out west. Also, Denver doesn’t seem to get the culinary notoriety that some other cities do, Keegan gives his opinion on why that is.

With restaurant week in Denver on the down swing, Greg asks Keegan if he thinks it’s still a viable promotion of Denver restaurants and if he and D Bar are going to participate again this year. Greg also finds out from chef Keegan where he likes to go to have someone else do the cooking, tune in to find out where he spends the night off!

It’s time for our “In the Kitchen” segment, and on the show tonight is chef Andrea Frizzi from Il Posto and the new Vero Italian at the Denver Central Market. Chef Andrea talks about how his menu changes weekly so that he can stay fresh with seasonal ingredients and what’s hot on the culinary scene here in Denver. Also, he’s moving Il Posto, tune in to find out where and why!

Lis Geraci and Dean Landi from St. Vrain Cidery in Longmont. Lis is the operations manager and where’s a number of hats over at St. Vrain. They’ve only been open a couple of weeks and are expecting their cider to be ready in early 2017, so how are they open already? Tune in to find out what their selling!

Dean Landi, owner at St. Vrain brought samples of some of Colorado’s best cider, here’s a side note for you, not all cider is sweet! Kyle Moyer from the Crafty Fox and Bogey’s Beer and Wine joins the show and Greg asks him and Dean if cider is here to stay, or is it just a fad? Also, is Dean concerned about big business moving in on the craft cider explosion that’s happening nation wide? Tune in to find out!

We know that St Vrain isn’t quite ready to be selling their own cider, but when it’s ready, what can we expect from them? Also, Dean and Lis offer twenty six tap lines of all Colorado ciders, so you don’t have to worry about variety when stopping by St. Vrain for a refreshing alternative to beer! Speaking of beer, we know that the brewery community is close one and they all help each other out, but Greg asks Dean if it’s the same in the craft cider community?

It’s time for “Booze in the News” with Kyle Moyer from the Crafty Fox Tap House and Pizzeria and Bogey’s Beer and Wine. This week Kyle brought down a few different whiskies for us to sample, but their not just any whiskey, their bottle and bonded whiskey. What’s “Bottle and Bonded”? Tune in to find out, it’s a real treat for the whiskey lover! Also Kyle tells us about some great whiskeys you can enjoy on any budget!
