Spend less than $100 going out in Larimer Square?  Yes, it’s possible

One of the things I love most about Denver is how easy it is to go out. True, sometimes I long to run away to the mountains – like most of us. But there’s no denying the accessibility of fun, food, and culture by living in the city.

One of the things I love least about going out, however, is the expense. In reality, it’s expensive because I love experiencing new things: one more fun cocktail, one more intriguing appetizer, one more quick stop before going home. Cover charge? Who cares! We’re on the town!

So when I went out last Friday night with my taller half, I was frankly shocked at how much we did in one evening on a very small tab. That’s right: a Friday night in Larimer Square cost us less than $100 total. Including tips and street parking.

Here’s how:

9 pm: Bistro Vendome, 1420 Larimer Steet

Bistro has a late night happy hour – even on Friday and Saturday nights. Sit at the bar and savor happy hour bites and a half-price glass of wine.

Moules (mussels), Socca Frites (polenta-style fries), a glass of Rose, and a glass of Malbec: $26.75 pre-tax and tip

10:30 pm: Rioja, 1431 Larimer Street

Rioja just happens to be a sister restaurant to Bistro Vendome. I was craving dessert, my husband was in need of caffeine, so this was a perfect stop for both following their dinner rush. Patio seating and good people watching were a plus.

Lemon Yuzu Tart and two coffees:

$15.18 pre-tax and tip

11:00 pm: Crimson Room, 1403 Larimer Street

Crimson Room is an underground (literally, underground) bar decorated in deep reds and beautiful textures. And on this Friday night, they had music. A jazz ensemble, The Wellton Street Players, were on until midnight and there was no cover charge (but be a good person and put some cash in the band’s tip jar!). Cozy up in a booth or on the velvet loveseat, grab a drink, and tap your toes to the beat.

Champagne Cocktail and Aviation:

$21 pre-tax and tip

So there you have it. Larimer Square, on a weekend night, for less than $100.

Extravagant? No. Filling? I wouldn’t do this if I craved a full meal.

But a fun, inexpensive way to spend a classy, quiet evening in Denver? Most definitely!
