Meet The Chef

Corey was born and raised in Denver Colorado. His mother, via grandmother, would teach him how to cook Filipino dishes as a child for every celebration; giving inspiration to his vocation. His first memory of smell at only a few days old came from the sushi bar at Sushi Den. That would eventually spur his obsession for that aroma and lead him to begin his career at 17.

Recently Chef Baker has left Denvers lauded Sushi Den to pursue private home sushi parties and events as well as cooking in restaurants all over metro Denver in hopes of gaining more traction to open another Japanese focused restaurant.

Chef Baker has nearly 20 years experience in Japanese cuisine, primarily as a itame/sushi chef, picking up exceptional knife skills, fish butchery and traditional recipes along the way. Opening over a dozen restaurants, chef Baker has gained knowledge in every aspect of running a business, giving him the chef driven restaurant edge.

Having Toshi Kizaki and Yoshi Shiuchi as mentors, chef Baker has been fortunate in truly creating his own style as a local favorite among the Denver diners and leader in the sushi chef community.

Chef has received awards at sushi ronin for 25 best restaurants in Denver by 5280 magazine and best sushi restaurant in the Westword, winning a Ramen competition and helping the team at Sushi Den through many Best of Denver awards over his 10 years as a Chef.

Outside of the kitchen you can find Baker as a jack of many trades, from piano moving to landscaping, and any handyman job that comes along.
